Understanding Your Legal Options as a Sexual Abuse Survivor

Upcoming Online Event

If you've experienced sexual abuse, we're here to help.

We will discuss legal options for individuals who have experienced abuse in:

Children's Aid, Foster and/or Adoptive Homes

School

Church

Sports Organizations

Scouts and Big Brother Programs

And other Institutions

We will be answering questions such as:

How long do you have to press charges for sexual assault in Canada?

What is considered institutional sexual abuse?

What is involved in filing a sexual assault lawsuit?

And more...

Our presenters, which include members of The Sixties Scoop Network, The Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta, The Sixty Scoop Indigenous Society of BC, and Jellinek Ellis Gluckstein Lawyers will help attendees navigate the supports, resources and resolutions they may need as survivors of abuse.

This webinar will also provide further information for 60s Scoop Survivors, including what legal options are available for survivors beyond the class action, while also answering questions for those who have suffered childhood abuse.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.

The Sixties Scoop Network is pleased to share legal options for survivors.

My name is Colleen Hele Cardinal, after many years of searching for good lawyers to help me pursue my own personal injury case, I was referred to Simona Jellinek and Ivanna Iwasykiw from a friend and fellow community member. I began my case last year in 2022 and asked if they would help me share information with survivors across Canada who are looking to pursue legal action against their abusers. They happily agreed and we began with a townhall in Ottawa last year, then Toronto, Saskatoon and now townhalls across the country have been planned.

It can be difficult navigating legal terms, what to ask, who to trust and what options are available for you as someone who has experienced childhood trauma. We are here to provide answers to questions you may have and Simona and Ivanna have a great F.A.Q (frequently asked questions) on their website.

The word is getting out for survivors to seek justice when they are ready.

I want to make it clear that this is not a class action nor will it ever be, this is information for survivors to make an informed decision if personal injury litigation is right for them.
